Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026

1. Introduction

SignBridge ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by SignBridge and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you use the SignBridge web application and mobile app (collectively, "the Service").

By using SignBridge, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password (or, if you use Google Sign-In, your Google profile information). This is required to create and manage your account.

2.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including: pages visited, lesson progress, XP earned, quiz scores, streak data, and session duration. This data helps us improve the learning experience.

2.3 Audio Data

When you use the speech-to-sign translation feature, your voice input is processed in real time. On web, this uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API, which processes audio locally. On mobile, audio may be sent to our backend (powered by OpenAI Whisper) for transcription. We do not store audio recordings.

2.4 Device Information

We may collect device type, operating system, browser type, and IP address for security and performance monitoring purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To personalise your learning experience and track progress
  • To send account-related emails (e.g., password reset)
  • To analyse usage patterns and improve features
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Data Storage and Security

User data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication). Firebase complies with GDPR and other relevant data protection regulations. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.

While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Firebase — authentication, database, and file storage
  • OpenAI Whisper API — speech-to-text transcription (mobile only; no audio stored)
  • Google Sign-In — OAuth authentication (optional)
  • Vercel — web hosting and deployment
  • Expo — mobile app build and distribution

Each third party has its own privacy policy governing data they process.

6. Cookies

The web application may use cookies or browser local storage to maintain your login session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may affect Service functionality.

7. Children's Privacy

SignBridge is designed for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

To exercise these rights, contact us at ghanyelisha@gmail.com.

9. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and, where appropriate, by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
